WYRE Piddle Elite went into the last week of the season with two matches remaining and needing to win both to take the Evesham and District Association Division One title.
In the first one against clubmates Livewyres, Mark Green and Matt Hartwell both won three singles each in straight games. Chris Gooderham beat Rob Addis and Ray Griffiths but lost to Chas Lane as the Elite won 9-1.
The same three players took on Bengeworth Red and clinched the title with another 9-1 success. This left the Elite unbeaten during the season and taking the title by one point from Bengeworth Tigers.
The Tigers had a narrow 6-4 win over clubmates Blue thanks to Grahame Brown and Ken Bakers 21-8, 21-11 doubles win over Mike Prior and Richard Bishop. Bishop beat both Baker and Stuart Greene in the singles.
The basement battle between Studley and Bidford Bears ended in victory for Studley by 7-3.
Mick Kirwan, Derek Close and Gillian Holmes all won two singles each the two for Holmes being her only victories in the division this season. She beat Robert Poole 21-10, 12-21, 21-12, Graham Salmon 21-16, 21-19 and was unlucky to lose to Graham Jackson 21-19 in the decider.
The Bears failed to get anything from matches against Tigers or Blue and the one point in a 7-3 defeat by Livewyres consigns them to bottom spot.
