FOLLOWING three weeks of postponed sailing because of the high state of the river, last Sunday saw a good crowd gather on the Avon at the Common Road club.

With two races on the day, both with a start upstream towards the railway bridge, competition was very strong.

The first saw all the competitors across the river with no clear leader, each taking it in turns to head the fleet it was only almost on the last lap that Ian Haywood and John and Ian Robertson broke away before the Robertsons held their nerve to win from Haywood.

The next race, the first round of the Pursuit series, saw Mike Long with a good lead that he was trying hard to hold on to.

For over an hour his rivals chased hard and slowly Long was overhauled.

Three crews clawed their way past and it was finally Haywood and Middleton in the top two slots with Pickford having to settle for third after an enjoyable competition.
