POWICK 3, MARTLEY SPURS 2
A WELL executed free kick which resulted in man of the match Paul Ruhback finding the net from 20 yards gave Powick the lead after only four minutes. This was just the start that Powick needed following a disappointing performance against Droitwich the previous Sunday.
From the re-start they continued to put pressure on the Martley defence and in the 12th minute they got a second goal when Phil Skilton found himself one-on-one with the keeper after a superb solo run from the halfway line. The keeper managed to save the first shot but had no chance with the follow up.
Martley started to push up to get back in the game and on several occasions left themselves exposed in defence.
Powick continued to look the stronger team after the break and were using the wings to good advantage but the Martley defence was more resolute in the second half and Powick were finding them harder to break down.
In the 78th minute and against the run of play, a mix up in the Powick defence allowed Chris Collins through to give Ben Chamberlain no chance in the Powick goal.
For the first time in the game Martley started to put some good moves together and in the 85th minute their efforts were rewarded when they were given a penalty. Robert Ganderton made no mistake with the spot kick and with five minutes remaining the score was level.
Powick came straight back from the re-start with great determination and two minutes later Gary Henderson got the winner with a superb curling free kick just outside the penalty area which found the top corner of the net.
