HAVING seen the short article in your recent issue and the signs going up warning us of the impending work, I cannot believe that we are to be subjected to yet more traffic lights, this time at Link Top. In recent times the town has been taken over by them.
In my opinion lights are the last thing needed here, it will now mean that in just a -mile stretch of Worcester Road, from the Spring Lane junction to Link top, we will now be able to enjoy four sets of traffic lights and two sets of pedestrian crossings! The traffic will become even more congested and delayed in this area.
All that was needed to improve the problem at Link Top was a roundabout, this would have kept the traffic moving at all times in all directions, and an improvement to the inside lane of the Newtown Road junction with Worcester Road.
At the moment, if there are two vehicles in the outside lane waiting to turn right it prevents more than two vehicles using the inside lane to turn left because the nature of the bend and width of the lane. This prevents anyone further from swinging round to turn left, unless they go on the pavement. There is plenty of room to make this improvement but I suppose that would be much too complicated and go way beyond the realms of common sense.
Now it just appears to be the policy in Malvern that wherever there is a traffic problem stick some lights there, that will sort it out, irrespective of how many are already there.
The money is obviously in the kitty to be spent on these lights, so why can't a bit more be spent on filling in all the deep potholes and improving the disgraceful state of the roads in and around Malvern? But I expect that is another problem that will be neglected.
We will just go on paying our vast increases in Council Tax and seeing nothing in return. I shall just continue dreaming of what might have been!
