JOHN Hinton (You Say, March 29) entertains us with comments via Morden Royal British Legion.
Now a "moaning pensioner", I was then indeed lucky enough to visit the lush jungle paradise of South East Asia during The Second World War, my most enduring memory of those days being leeches up to my armpits!
This was an experience repeated many decades later in my life when New Labour, its ardent supporters and a prudent Chancellor, decided that a weekly rise of 75p was more than adequate for pensioners.
And the money they saved was, not long after, sufficient to give hypocritical MPs of all political parties a rise of £30 a week.
