IF New Labour is given a second term, then D M Margrett will get his wish sooner than most realise (You Say, March 31). There will be a regional government in Birmingham, and the power of Westminster and Whitehall will be drastically reduced.

In fact, New Labour is already doing this by stealth, as I suspect he knows. Instead of mentioning that this is European Union policy, the Government is attempting to fool us into accepting it in the guise of more "local democracy".

The EU's stated aim is to become a "Europe of the Regions" by 2009. That is how the individual countries of Europe are to be run when full integration into the EU Superstate has been achieved.

The UK is to be divided up into 12 "Euro-Regions", each with its own Assembly. This process is already well underway.

Scotland, Wales and Ulster will be Regions in their own right, as will "London & the South East", so they have been given their own devolved assemblies already.

The Conservatives have suggested that this devolution has been "botched" by Mr Blair - however, it makes perfect sense, given the ultimate aim of the Euro-Federalists. England is to be split up into a further eight regions.

The coming election will be our last chance to send MPs to a Westminster that still has the power to run our Country.

If you want the UK to continue on the path to an EU Superstate, simply vote for any of the three main parties.

R G SPENCER, Malvern.
