THE names of everyone living in Earls Croome at the dawn of the new Millennium are now recorded for posterity in the village hall.

They are listed around the border of a framed pictorial map of the parish, launched last Saturday (March 31) with a commemorative book.

The event attracted visitors from outside the parish during the afternoon while 120 people from the village enjoyed a social gathering in the evening.

There was a free map and book for every household but co-ordinator Mike Clemas said 56 books and 41 maps had also been sold to other people connected with the village.

"The map looks splendid in the hall and the whole project has raised people's awareness of what we have here.

"They have discovered things like white willowherb, unusual orchids, muntjak deer and the sites of the medieval village, the Roman road and the manor house."

To keep the record of parish history alive, Mr Clemas is keeping two parish albums at Dunstall House, so that events can be entered as they happen. There are also plans to set up a parish web site.
