Evesham United moved into the second round of the Worcester Royal Infirmary

Cup following a 4- 0 home success against Malvern Town at Common Road on Tuesday night.

In a game played in a continual downpour, honours were even at half time, although the home side had just about created the better openings, but Malvern had always looked dangerous on the break.

The second period saw Malvern start much the stronger of the two sides.

A Phil Slade drive went narrowly wide of Beattie's far post and Raj Sharma should have given Town the lead in the 55th minute, when he was in the clear. With Beattie slipping, the Town midfielder had all the goal to aim at but scuffed his shot wide of the far post.

A minute later, Andy Shepherd created time and space in the box and looked odds on to score, but the Malvern striker fired straight at Beattie.

It was the home side who went in front moments later, when a long ball out of defence, was controlled by Paul Davies who set up Brown.

Malvern still refused to accept defeat, but were killed off, when a quick double in the 72nd and 73rd minutes, from McCarten and Brown again, put the game firmly, if a little fortuitously, in Evesham's control.

Indeed it got worse for Town when Davies slotted in Evesham's fourth goal in the 85th minute.

Overall, there was little doubt that Evesham deserved to progress, but Town could have easily have found themselves two up within an hour, which would have given the game a very different perspective.
