A CRISP autumn afternoon on the Malvern Hills is the setting for Like A Rainbow, a new play by Malvern playwright Ali Oxtoby.

Darren is striding ahead with something on his mind. Mary is six stiles behind, concentrating on her affirmation tapes and worrying about her relationship. Alex has problems of his own and can't stop sneezing.

They all need to speak out but will they find the courage?

Ali, who wrote Dial M for Martin, shown at Malvern's Theatre of Small Convenience, intended her new play for the same venue but it ended up bigger than intended, with too much movement for a small theatre. Instead, it will be presented at the Midlands Arts Centre, Birmingham, from April 12 to 14, as part of a double bill of one-act plays called Rainbows and Roundabouts. It starts two of the Dial M team - Dan Roebuck (who played Martin) and Dympna McGill (who played Kerry).

The other play is Mysterious Ways by Sibyl Ruth.

Rainbows and Roundabouts is at 7.45pm each night. Tickets are £6.50 (concs £4.50) on 0121 440 3838.
