MALVERN WHC 1,
KINGS HEATH 1
FOR their last match of the season Malvern gained a precious league point with a draw at home to Kings Heath.
With a welcome return by Bridget Evans playing a classic left winger's game, Malvern piled on the pressure in the first half.
Kerry Tudge had a typically busy game in midfield and distributed the ball well to Jo Hall who showed pace on the right and to Sarah Hopkins who, despite great determination, was unable to find the back of the net.
Against the run of play Kings Heath scored from a rebound off the pads after a good save from goalie Jess Thomas who played well throughout. Fine tackling from Katie Martin and Nicky Jones denied the visitors a further score.
After a half time reshuffle due to injury to midfielder Louise Jelley, player of the match Nicky Harvey moved forward and covered an enormous amount of ground, tackling tirelessly to give several chances to Emily Price who worked hard throughout and was unlucky not to score.
Bridget Evans eventually levelled the score after a scramble in the goal mouth.
Kings Heath raised the pace in the last quarter but their attacks were well dealt with by dependable sweeper Jeanette Tudge with the occasional stop by her now immobile side-kick, Louise Jelley.
After the match Malcolm Swinswood was thanked for another season's quality umpiring and was presented with a bottle of whisky.
