COLWALL 6, GLOUCESTER 0
COLWALL completed their West Premier League programme on Saturday by recording a resounding victory over Gloucester.
After losing to their opponents earlier in the season, Colwall were determined to show their true colours and produced some of the excellent hockey they have shown in periods throughout the season.
It was Colwall that asserted their authority from the whistle, winning the ball in midfield and using their wingers to full effect.
With Gloucester seeming to take some time to adjust to the pace of the game, Colwall took full advantage and scored their first when a penalty corner shot was parried by the goalkeeper and the rebound was swept up by Sue Williams.
Several minutes of Gloucester pressure was competently dealt with by Emma Twig and Vicky Riley in defence and solid tackling from Dawn Haywood in the centre of the pitch ensured that Gloucester's most effective player was prevented from causing any problems. Colwall then scored a second after a goalmouth scramble to conclude the first half 2-0 up.
Colwall started the second half as brightly as the first hungry for goals. Good interlinking play from Karen Hackley, Polly Bounds and Sue Williams created chaos in the visitor's half of the pitch and this eventually produced more goals from Polly Bounds, two from Dawn Haywood and one from Nicky Hannigan to make the final score 6-0.
Colwall finish this season placed midway in the table and look forward to improving their position next season. A big thank you to all of their supporters for cheering them along.
