I HAVE strongly agreed with some of the Rev D G Griffin's previous letters.

However, he lets himself down badly with his latest effort (You Say, April 2).

Pearl Harbour or no Pearl Harbour, the US could perfectly well have stayed out of the war in Europe and then left Britain and the continent to patch themselves up afterwards.

What actually happened was that American blood was shed to help win the war and American generosity shown afterwards to friend and former foe alike, whether the good Reverend likes the idea or not.

Hollywood does some silly things, and rewriting history is one of them. Unfortunately, Mr Griffin makes precisely the same mistake when he attempts to deny America the credit it richly deserves for its vital assistance, both against the Nazis and after they were beaten.

As for the present day, Mr Griffin can parrot his empty accusation of "dictatorship" all he wants - it isn't going to become a reality just because he stamps his foot and says so.
