GOOD Samaritans in Worcester have been urged to help a city youth group.
The Streets Ahead Youth Group, based on Worcester's Dines Green estate, is determined to give its premises a new lease of life.
The club, which is based next to the Co-op in Gresham Road, is open for four evenings a week and between 20 and 25 people regularly use it.
"The place is really in a desperate state of repair," said Jon White, a youth worker at Streets Ahead.
"The wooden seating is uncomfortable and the walls are plain and uninspiring.
"We do have a rather haggard pool table and, until recently, we had a Sony PlayStation and video recorder, but these were stolen during a recent break in."
He described the theft as "a devastating blow".
"These children already have very little and the theft has just made the situation worse for them," added Mr White.
At the moment the group, which is run by five staff, is turning its hand towards creating a garden at the back of the premises.
The long-term aim is to sell the produce grown there.
"We need to make the club more comfortable and provide a safe environment for the children," added Mr White.
"I'd like to hear from people willing to help with their time and skills. Every little will help."
Seat cushions, posters, paint and unwanted games would be put to good use, he said.
If anyone can spare some time or materials then please contact Jon White on 01905 422 211.
