RUBBLE has been left strewn in a Worcester road following a quibble between the city council and a building firm over cobbled paving stones.
Fed-up residents in a cul-de-sac in Warndon Villages claim they are being forced to drive around piles of building materials at the mouth of their road as a result of the stand-off.
Although the council says the row has blown over, it has warned residents to wait for the site to be cleared.
"It's all to do with brick paving," said an exasperated Mark Harris, who lives in Falmouth, part of Berkley Heywood.
"According to Beazer, originally the planning application was for one type of brick and then the council seemed to change its mind."
Mr Harris claimed piles of sand and stone had been left in limbo while the two sides wrangled.
"The whole place has been left looking a mess," he said.
"Tons of junk have been scattered around the road."
The council's head of development planning, Peter Yates, declined to comment. He said the matter was being dealt with by the council's engineering section.
Adrian Smith, the council's assistant engineer, said Worcester City Council was unhappy about the choice of paving.
"The contractor had laid half block paving and half 'tegular' - or cobble-style paving," he said.
He claimed a planning condition, attached to the planning permission, had stated the tegular variety ought to be used.
"The dispute has since been resolved," Mr Smith said.
"However, it may be after Easter before the work is carried out, because Beazer is waiting for a contractor to finished another job."
Persimmon Homes now owns Beazer.
"We're not in dispute with anybody," said Dominic Harman, managing director of Persimmon Homes West Midlands, today.
"The subcontractor laid the wrong paving. We've written to the firm. It's in hand and the work should be carried out in the next fortnight."
