AN elderly couple were in hospital with serious injuries today after a crash involving four cars in a residential Worcester street.
The accident happened in Lansdowne Road, near to its junction with Laslett Street, at 7.45 last night.
Firefighters removed the roof of pensioner Robert Chance's blue Nissan Sunny to free him from the wreckage.
The 65-year-old was travelling with his wife Janet, aged 61, when they were in collision with a red Ford Escort XR3i and two parked cars, a white Ford Escort and a purple Vauxhall Calibra.
Mrs Chance, of Knight Street, St John's, Worcester, suffered head injuries in the crash and was in a critical condition at Worcester Royal Infirmary today.
Her husband suffered suspected internal injuries. He was also taken to WRI, where his condition was described to be stable today.
Hereford and Worcester Fire Brigade spokesman Alec Mackie said Lansdowne Road was closed for two hours while crews from the city's White Watch, using the emergency cutting vehicle, worked at the scene.
Police have not confirmed the name of the red Ford Escort driver, but they are appealing for anyone who saw the accident to contact PC Nick French, at the Road Policing Unit, on 01905 723888.
Officers confirmed two men had been arrested in connection with the accident and were helping police with their enquiries this morning.
