A DROITWICH Spa trader claims vandals are leaving a trail of destruction during early morning attacks.

Brian Goodreid, of Spa Oakland Stores, in Oakland Avenue, said the Ridings and Primsland estates are regularly targeted by vandals at weekends.

He says fences, cars and plant pots have been attacked.

A £100 bundle of newspapers outside Mr Goodreid's store was recently set alight.

The shopkeeper said: "Many customers come into the shop and complain about vandalism taking place after midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.

"These vandals are upsetting a lot of people."

PC Cheshire, of Droitwich police, is investigating the incidents.

He said: "This kind of vandalism has been an issue for more than 12 months and has stepped up recently.

"Routine patrols have kept watch in the area and will continue."

He said arrests had been made in connection with the alleged incidents.

Droitwich Spa town councillor Mike Barratt (Con, Droit.South) said: "I am aware of these problems and I welcome the support from police.

"The last thing residents want is aggravation when they are trying to sleep."
