ON Tuesday the Woodlands View Affordable open was fished on Deans Pool which saw Jim Smith (Pershore MG) take top spot with carp up to six pounds caught with pole fished worms over casters at peg 24 for 43-8-0. Second placed Ernie Wills (Woodlands) had 38-11-0, third Mick Williams (Shrewsbury) 34-11-0.
The Starlets Veterans had a change of venue for their latest encounter to Elmbridge's Heron Pool where fish proved to be evasive and winner Phil Hill (Redditch) needed just 6-11-0 of mixed fish taken with pole fished pinkies from peg two. Club secretary Mick Taylor (Northfield) was a close second with 6-9-0, third John Grazier (Stoke Prior) 5-15-0.
Paul Webley (Kateshill AC) continued his good run at Astwood Fisheries by winning the Wednesday Bluebell Pool open by alternating corn and meat with the waggler at peg seven for 42-6-0. Second placed Brian Williams (Astwood) had 15-7-0, third Gary Kirkham (Astwood) 13-4-0.
On Saturday, yours truly Tony Brunn (Ovation Leisure) topped the Lower Broadheath open which was held on the Island Pool, fishing feeder and maggots to the Island, 12 carp went into the keepnet for 11-13-0. Keith Woodhead (Mini 20) was just one ounce behind in second place with 11-12-0, third Martin Tremlett (100 AC) 10-2-0.
Round Two of the Woodlands View Spring League for teams of four, saw Mick Denton (Oxford Drennan) take the individual honours by waggler fishing corn at High Pool peg 28 for 59-0-0 of carp. Ken Dawes (Diawa Trentmen) took the runners up spot with 53-0-0 from Arles peg 36, third Jason Neath (Shakespeare) 52-7-0. Oxford Drennan 'B' led the day with 66 points, Slapheads 63, Preston Innovations 62. Overall Shakespeare hold on to their lead with 132, Slapheads have 125, Oxford Drennan 116.
At Moorlands Farm the Silver Fish Pool open saw Bristol anglers dominate. Nigel Sanders pole fished maggots at peg 12 for 32-0-0 of roach and skimmers for top spot. Vic Bush had 23-6-0, third Mark Roberson (Droitwich) 21-13-0.
Over on the Meadow Pool, Mick Henshall (Fosters MG) ledgered corn at peg 59 for 36-3-0 of bream and carp. His team mate Dave Hill had 29-13-0 for second place, third Bob Hubbard (Strike) 22-12-0.
On Sunday Mal Watson (Shakespeare) was the winner of the Moorlands Farm open when he pole fished casters and corn at Bank Pool peg 21 for a 53-5-0 mixed catch. Second Martin Hughes (Ibstock Himley) 40-4-0, third Les Thompson (Baitmasters) 40-0-0.
At Lower Broadheath the Ovation Leisure open was held on the Ash Pool where Birmingham's Gerry Trueman (Unity AC) found carp at 11 metres with pole and corn for a top catch 19-6-0. Yours truly Tony Brunn (Ovation Leisure) followed up with 12-15-0, third Jim Pedley (Long Nuke AC) 5-11-0.
Old Farm AC fished its event at Silligrove Fisheries Coarse Pool with Ben Davis showing the way from peg five with a pole, corn and meat catch of 12-0-0. Second Charlie Southern 11-0-0, third Chris Kourtzer 7-2-0.
Another big turnout for the Woodlands View Arles and Deans Pool open, with Mike Jones (Slapheads) leading the field from Deans peg six by waggler fishing corn for 40-7-0. Second Dave Harris (Lobbies Tackle) 38-13-0, third Ian Didcott (Essex County) 31-0-0. The evening event was held on the same pools, but much bigger catches were recorded and Cliff Smith (Fox MG) took top spot by pole fishing corn down the margins of Deans peg 62 for 75-15-0. Dave Harries (Lobbies Tackle) had to settle for second place again with 55-8-0 from Arles peg 18, third Pete Ricketts (Woodlands) 55-4-0.
Astwood Fisheries Bluebell Pool open was headed by Bob Kennedy (Austin SS) with a mixed catch of 13-4-0 taken with pole fished corn and maggots from peg 19. Second Craig Lymer (Boars Head) 10-1-0, third Steve Fields (Cobra) 9-6-0.
With the trout season underway it was a nice change to get some catches reported to me this week from the three acre Silligrove Fishery at Kinlet near Bewdley, with most of the fish falling to buzzer or catswhisker lures. In the early part of the week Joe Woodhouse from Kingswinford took 15 Rainbows with fish up to six pounds and John Tromars from Clent taking ten Rainbows.
On Wednesday Halesowen's Paul Ingram had ten Rainbows averaging just over the two pounds mark. Thursday saw Bewdley's Ray Cutler take 11 fish and on Saturday Worcester's Tom Comerford landed nine fish with the best going to six pounds.
Day tickets cost £18.00 for two fish plus catch and release, a five hour ticket is £12.00 for one fish plus catch and release, and a three hour evening ticket after 5pm is £9.00 for one fish plus catch and release.
