BROMSGROVE RFC Under-12s shared the North Midlands tournament for clubs on Sunday.
Winners last year, joint winners this year, Bromsgrove once again demonstrated their all round ability and commitment, drawing 5-5 with Worcester in a pulsating final.
All the top sides in the region turned out at Finstall Park in an attempt to win the prestigious tournament.
In the group matches Town were drawn against Malvern, Old Halesonians and last season's finalists, Birmingham-Solihull.
Bromsgrove played well in the first two games, beating Malvern 15-0 and Old Hales 25-0. In both games the forwards laid the foundations for the backs to show off their running and handling skills.
The eight tries were shared amongst six different players.
The final group match was a repeat of last year's final. With Birmingham-Solihull fielding a very big pack, the Bromsgrove forwards made a huge effort and were in charge for large parts of the game.
Good defensive work was required by all the players in order to keep the line intact. Town won this match 5 -0.
The semi-final was against Silhillians, a big, strong and well drilled team whose outside- half kept pegging Bromsgrove back with enormous clearing kicks.
Both teams had chances but superb tackling meant that the game ended 0-0. In sudden death extra time Bromsgrove kept their nerve and harassed the Sils defence to force the winning try.
Ten tries scored, none conceded and into the final against Worcester.
As the rain started the large crowd were treated to a magnificent game of rugby.
Worcester started the stronger and put Town under pressure but could not break through. Bromsgrove fought back and the game ebbed and flowed until, with one minute left, Town's forwards made good ground, released the ball which went down the back line for a try in the corner, 5-0 to Bromsgrove.
Worcester kicked off deep towards the Bromsgrove line and after sustained pressure equalised with the very last play of normal time.
Extra time again, and with both sides playing their hearts out, neither team could score again.
After such a performance it was agreed that Bromsgrove and Worcester would share the championship trophy this season.
The Bromsgrove squad: (tries scorers in brackets): Matthew Newman, Chris Dearden, Jon Cadman, Tom Hinks, Matthew Edgar (one), Freddie Cowen, Simon Prior, Simon Roberts (one), George Crook (three), Scott Morris, Ben Raybould (one), Sam Schofield (four), Matthew Newell, Ashley Pogson (one), Peter Morris, Tom Cole and Will Gormley.
