Cirencester 2, Bretforton 2
Bretforton travelled to Cirencester for the last match of the Severn League season.
With the league already won Bretforton had nothing to lose and they were going to enjoy the last game.
But the visitors struggled to concentrate as the game started and their usual controlled game was not really going their way.
It wasn't long before Cirencester's pressure proved too much and following a scramble in the goalmouth they managed to sneak the ball over the line.
As always Bret hit back and from a spell of creative play Jane Wheeler claimed a goal. The general level of play improved for both teams and the visitors had numerous opportunities to score but were unable to capitalise. Before the half time whistle the home team managed to get another one over the goal line following a repeated untidy goalmouth scramble.
Going into the second half Bret were the underdogs and they had to raise their game if they wanted to finish the season as they had been playing. Things started to flow and they seemed to be more comfortable on the ball. Many opportunities were created, but unfortunately the Cirencester defence were like a brick wall or the goal posts seemed to move away from the shots.
Bret definitely had the upper hand, but time was running out. Hannah Jordan and Julie Stowe in defence linked well with the midfield players. Julie Hall on many occasions ran the ball down the full length of the pitch, but often found the only escape route was back via Bobbie Handley who was there for support.
A good ball from Dawn Thatcher at the back set Wheeler off on a great run down the middle when she reached the circle she laid a brilliant ball off to Sophie Corbett who fired the ball home past the goalkeeper's hand.
For the last few minutes the visitors tried every trick in the book to get another past the keeper, but they were denied a final win of the season.
Bobbie Handley was voted player of the match.
