HOPES that summer horse racing will start on schedule at Worcester appear to have been dashed by new restrictions.
Officials had hoped an announcement today by The British Horseracing Board would allow Worcester to start the summer season on time.
However, Worcester still comes within three kilometres of an infected foot-and-mouth area and is therefore unlikely to begin racing on the May 12 opening date.
The BHB today relaxed the conditions from 10km to three but, although it will be greeted with delight by many courses up and down the country, the guidelines will do little to boost Pitchcroft management.
The BHB is unable to reveal at this stage which of the 14 courses currently prevented from racing will be able to stage racing again under these changes.
Carlisle, Cartmel and Chepstow are the other courses still within the 3km area.
