A CANOE club is looking for a new home after Worcestershire County Council war-ned it would not renew its current lease due to concern from schools about security and conflict of use.
Wyre Forest Canoe Club, based on land between Bewdley High School and Wribbenhall Middle School, Bewdley, is holding talks with the Wyre Forest District Council over a possible new site for a canoe and trailer store, changing facilities and disabled toilets.
A report to the district council this week said officers had agreed in principle to the 100-member club moving on to the Bewdley Leisure Centre site.
The development, which would cost up to £60,000, would be funded by lottery cash and sponsorship.
Bewdley High School, which shares the leisure centre with the district council and county's youth service, has objected to the club's planning application as unsuitable and detrimental to existing facilities and this could prove a stumbling block to the move.
The report stated: "Although not discussed in any length with the club to date, a better option may be to find an alternative site along the River Severn and in the ownership of the district council."
Members of the district policy and implementation committee are recommended to agree to the continuation of talks over a new site when they meet tonight.
