GARDENING CLUB: There was a beautiful display of flowers for the club's spring show on April 7.
This was wonderful to see after the previous day's storms and the wettest year on record.
The entries for the daffodil sections were strong and the spring flowers presented for class 14 - a container of spring flowers - made a massed bank of colour, a feast for the eye.
We are grateful to the judges Mr Brian Cooke and Mrs Joan Brimblecombe, who had 24 classes of flowers and arrangements to view and judge.
The overall number of entrants and entries was up on last year and the judges commented that the club had done well to stage such a display.
Many thanks for this go to our very able show secretary, Beat Kitchen, and to the committee.
Members had also overcome difficulties, even to washing the soil from flower petals, and had found a great variety of flowers, shrubs and foliage from the humble primrose to a three foot orchid to display and arrange.
Among the prize winners were G Rochfort, B Kitchen, N Cherry, L Joiner, P Atherton, G Slatter, A Wall, A Suffield, C Pring and L Collins.
The show ended with a presentation to the show overall points winner, Ann Wall.
