REDDITCH Arrows American Football Club thumped their old adversaries Lancashire Wolverines 32-0 in a pre-season friendly.
Playing for the first time at their new home venue of Kings Norton Rugby Club, Arrows overcame atrocious playing conditions to dominate in both offense and defense.
The game started in explosive fashion when Wolverines fumbled on their third play, which left the ball on their own 35 yard line.
Taking advantage of this good position on their opening play, Arrows' Dave Mills ran in for a 6-0 lead.
Both teams found moving the ball difficult due to the heavy mud and most points came from big plays rather than short yardage gains.
Arrows capitalised later in the first quarter when Mills again broke free and sprinted down the sideline for a 77- yard run. A successful two-point conversion from Andrew Otiko saw the lead extend to 14-0.
Pressure from Arrows' defence forced the Wolverine QB to throw short and Karl Watkins intercepted on the 20 yard line and returned the ball into the endzone for a half-time 20-0 lead.
The third quarter saw further scores from Anthony Perkins from 45 yards and Andrew Otiko from two yards.
Arrows open their regular season fixture on May 13 with a visit to Gateshead Senators.
