A KEMPSEY resident has hit out at officials for allowing slaughtered sheep to remain in a field for days, upsetting householders living nearby.
Susan Rowberry, who lives half-a-mile away from the field at the crossroads of Post Office Lane and Green Street, said she could not bear to drive in the direction of the slaughtered sheep for fear of what she might see.
Lt Bob Williams, of the Green Howards Infantry Regiment, confirmed this morning that all the sheep in Kempsey - slaughtered last Tuesday - had now been moved.
"They were all moved yesterday," he said. "There are only a few things left to do in Kempsey but the sheep have gone."
Mrs Rowberry said the sheep should not have been allowed to stay in the field for days while residents drove past.
"I'm absolutely disgusted with the way this was handled," said Mrs Rowberry, of Oakfield Drive.
"The sheep were left to decompose and children were able to wander past the field. This should never have been allowed."
6 Animals slaughtered under foot-and-mouth precautions are being cleared away quicker than ever, the Army clean-up squad has revealed.
Lt Williams says the number of new infected premises had dropped significantly, meaning the clear-up could begin in earnest.
There have been no confirmed cases of foot-and-mouth in Herefordshire or Worcestershire since Friday.
"The figures are going in the right way," said Lt Williams. "We're very pleased with what we're seeing. We can now eat into the backlog of farms."
