EASTER shoppers were faced with a Burgeroid Invasion in Worcester city centre as animal rights campaigners handed out leaflets to passers-by.

The Burgeroids gathered outside McDonald's and Burger King in an attempt to lobby shoppers about junk food.

"Meat means misery," said Tracy Murray, spokeswoman for Worcester Animal Rights Coalition.

"The junk food, animal-based diet upon which humanity has become increasingly dependent on is destroying the environment, leading to greater human hunger and causing the deaths of hundreds of millions of animals.

"We had a very good response from the public and they took the protest with good humour.

"The leaflets explained what effect junk food has on animals. It also addressed health and diet.

"The Burgeroids are touring all around the country."

A spokesman for Burger King today declined to comment on the protest, while no one from McDonald's was available for comment as the Evening News went to press.
