THE final of the Malvern Table Tennis League Handicap Competition, sponsored by Lamberts & Wade Solicitors, was won by Crackpots E.
The match provided plenty of entertainment for a good crowd assembled at the Civil Service Sports & Social Club. The early games seemed to favour Wanderers B but Crackpots came storming back into the match thanks to the efforts of their youngest player, Eak. Showing great consistency and a good temperament Eak beat Colin Dolding 21-15, 21-19 and then Ian Walwyn 21-10, 25-23. He also narrowly lost to Nick Bottomley in a hard fought game. Eak was well supported by Pete Harrold and James Palmer to give Crackpots a deserved victory by 26 points.
The Secondary Competition saw Manor Park Amateurs beat their Division Three rivals Crackpots B by 25 points. A fine team effort by Simon Hughes, Chris Hughes and Ray Miles was good enough to give the Amateurs their success. For Crackpots Stephen Lindner will have been pleased to have taken a game off all three of his opponents.
The finals evening was given a good start when Neville Meredith beat Derek Reynolds 21-15, 22-20 in the final of the Supervets competition. It was fitting that Neville won as he is one of the co-sponsors of the Cup.
HANDICAP RESULTS: Crackpots E 407, Wanderers B 381; Crackpots B 389, Manor Park Amateurs 414.
The trophies will be distributed at the Presentation Evening at Manor Park Club on Friday, May 4.
