DROITWICH Archery Society, a target archery club, is on the lookout for new members.
In a bid to promote the sport, the club has a team who are willing to attend county fairs, open days and fetes to do demonstrations in archery, otherwise known as Toxophily, and invite the public to have a go.
The society, which has been in existence for many years, was formed by chairman Ken Barry, who is a keen active member.
Their governing body is the Grand National Archery Society, to whose rules and regulations they have to adhere.
Although founded in Droitwich, at present their outdoor range is situated at Battenhall Road, Worcester, but plans are in hand to move to a more suitable location in the near future.
During the summer season, club members meet on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Monday afternoons. Throughout the winter months, the club has the use of the Projectile Hall at Perdiswell Leisure Centre on Thursday evenings.
Archery is a sport for all ages, from school children to senior citizens. The club has several instructors who are fully experienced, having undergone stringent coaching courses run by the GNAS, and are always keen to give help and advice to any newcomers interested in the sport.
To this end, the club is in possession of a number of bows, arrows and other accessories for use by potential new members over a six week period before they decide to pursue the sport further by joining the club and purchasing the type of equipment which is suitable for them.
The county organises a number of tournaments throughout the year against other regional clubs and a number of proficient archers, both ladies and gents from the club, are invited to represent Worcestershire.
