BROMSGROVE and Droitwich Spa companies are being urged to look out for the new levy on fuel bills.
Firms are likely to notice a change in the cost of their fuel following the Government's introduction of a new tariff on energy use.
It came into effect on April 1.
Wychavon District Council's sustainability co-ordinator, Cherrie Mansfield, said: "The climate change levy has been introduced to help the UK meet targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, in particular carbon dioxide.
"It provides an opportunity for organisations to examine how much energy they use and look at cost effective measures for improving efficiency."
She added: "For many businesses, this could be a win-win situation - reducing costs, increasing efficiency and protecting the environment."
The effect of the new legislation will vary from company to company.
Those in non-energy intensive sectors, with large numbers of employees, may well benefit from an associated reduction in National Insurance contributions.
Others may face an increase of up to 15 per cent on their energy bills.
The council has produced a fact sheet on the new government package.
