A PLANNING application to create a major £40 million sports, leisure and entertainment centre in Redditch will be submitted in the next two months.

Redditch Council updated members on the proposal to develop a 28-acre site on the site of Abbey Stadium at a Town Centre partnership meeting.

A snowdome, cinema and swimming pools are to be included in the plan and potential operators for the individual attractions have come from as far away as Canada.

Redditch Council's central area director, Paul Patten, said: "Interest from operators has been immense.

"In particular, there has been international interest in the operation of the snowdome.

"We have had a further visit from a company in Toronto which is looking at coming to Redditch.

"We need to firm up details but things are progressing very well."

There has been a delay from the original timetable to submit a planning application by May.

But plans to build a Bordesley bypass are being looked at in more detail before the application will be submitted in the next couple of months.

The council, which is working with Bovis Lend Lease to create the project, has also been working with Worcestershire Health Authority.

Mr Patten said: "We have been in discussion with the health authority to try to provide some services specifically targeted at young people.

"We are looking at the amount of young people who will use the new facility and taking services to where they are."
