A COMMUNITY group formed to celebrate the Millennium has donated cash to charities and closed its books for good.
Droitwich Spa Bloom 2000 organised a ten-day festival last summer to mark the new century.
Events attracted large crowds, raising nearly £4,000 for local groups.
Organisers supported three main charities - St Richard's Hospice, in Worcester, Macmillan Cancer Relief and the Parkinson's Disease Association - which received cash throughout the year.
Droitwich Spa Town Council leader Cllr Pam Davey (Con, Droit.South) co-ordinated the group and recently presented cheques of £500 to the three main charities.
She said: "I was delighted with the response from people who took part and expressions of appreciation we received.
"Our intention was to bring the community together and raising cash for charities was an extra bonus."
Cllr Davey now heads the newly formed Droitwich Spa Heritage Project 2001. Members hope to promote the town's rich culture, attract lottery cash and boost tourism.
The project is looking for new members. Call Cllr Davey on (01905) 773289 for details.
