HEADLESS Cross ace Stefan Hodgetts endured another frustrating Formula Ford outing at the weekend when the Zetec Championship race at Snetterton ended after six laps.

Hodgetts, who crashed out of the first round at Silverstone was up against it from the start after gambling on slicks in qualifying on Saturday.

With the track drying out, Hodgetts made the change from wets only to see the heavens open again and ended up sitting 23rd on the grid.

He quickly climbed the field in atrocious conditions on Sunday, reaching 15th at the end of the first lap before a crash saw the safety car on the course for two laps.

After resuming, Hodgetts set a fastest lap of 1min 19.2sec as he climbed to eleventh before the event was red flagged in the seventh lap.

Hodgetts ended 11th, the position he occupied at the end of the sixth lap and was left to rue his bad luck again.

"It was qualifying that cost us really, but that was no-one's fault," said the 18-year-old.

"I was climbing the field and after setting the fastest lap I could have been up with the leaders if the race had continued.

"But there is nothing you can do about the weather and at least things are coming together for us."

Hodgetts is poised to sign a contract with Heathrow-based team Sweeney Hopper racing and was set to test at his favourite Thruxton circuit today (Wednesday) before heading for Castle Combe tomorrow.

He returns to competitive action at Donington on Sunday, April 29.
