A TEENAGER from Barnt Green has been remanded in custody after a shooting which left two people injured, shops boarded up and the main street in the village closed.
James Robert Matthews, aged 19, from Aqueduct Lane, appeared at Redditch Magist-rates' Court on Monday charged with a serious firearms offence, wounding and causing actual bodily harm.
Villagers called police after shots were fired in Hewell Road, damaging shops and cars.
A 15-year-old boy and a 35-year-old woman were hurt during the shooting at 8pm on Saturday.
They were treated for minor injuries at the Alexandra Hospital, in Redditch, and later discharged.
The road was closed until 4pm on Sunday while police searched the area.
Matthews has been remanded in custody until his next appearance in court, which is expected to be today.
DI Steve Cullen, from West Mercia Constabulary, said: "This was a very serious incident."
He praised the bravery of the police officers who attended the incident and thanked the public for its support.
The owner of Barnt Green Fish Bar, in Hewell Road, Paul Michaela, said: "It's a very peaceful village so it was a bit of a shock.
"I thought blanks were being fired until a car was hit and the glass shattered.
"There were three or four customers in the shop so I asked them to come into the back just in case."
