THE continuing consultation which Central Government requires us to undertake concerning the way in which Worcester City Council is to operate in future quotes the three statutory options available.
Confusion is reported to have arisen, and I have been told that some people have given their support to the Mayor and Cabinet option, or the Mayor and Council Manager option, because they wish Worcester to retain its Mayor.
Actually, under these options, the Mayor would have an executive role and we should have someone else to chair council meetings.
In other words, the traditional office of Mayor of Worcester would be swept away. The only way to retain it is to opt for the Leader Cabinet system.
ROBERT ROWDEN,
Leader of Worcester City Council.
