I WAS concerned to read Caroline Digger's comments on breast screening in Monday's paper (Evening News, April 9).

She stated that she was "frightened to go again because it was brutal, barbaric..." and "like being crushed by a boa-constrictor".

I rang up for self-referral as I am over 65. The staff at Bromsgrove promptly offered me an appointment at the mobile unit in Worcester.

Here the staff were sensitive, kind and efficient. Although the X-ray was a little uncomfortable, it was in no way an ordeal.

My real fear is that her comments, so easily made and so obviously frightening, may discourage nervous women, like me, from taking up appointments.
