TRAMPING the pavements of most UK cities and towns I have made a note of the state and condition of paths, kerbs and pedestrian areas.
Worcester City certainly displays the greatest variety of materials - bricks, slabs, "pavers" and cement of all colours, sizes and shapes - a real mix and mismatch.
Why are the water, electric, gas and other utilities allowed to throw away beautiful paving when refilling holes in the road only with quick tarmac? I recently watched workmen laying "pavers" on sand with no concrete. The job looks fine now - but the first heavy lorry to put two wheels on this pavement will create another puddle of water through subsidence.
I would like to see some quality control by Worcestershire County Council.
PAUL DAVIES,
Worcester.
