THE collection of bad debts in Bromsgrove is set to come under the spotlight of the district authority's policy and strategy scrutiny committee next Tuesday night, April 24.

The discussion could lead to a further report or a reappraisal of Bromsgrove District Council's current policies.

Housing rents, council tax, business rates and sundry debtors are just some of the issues which will be raised.

In an officer's report compiled for members it states that while there isn't a fundamental problem with the system it could be improved with a number of measures including increased staffing and chasing debts earlier.

The year ending 2000 left the authority with outstanding debts of £2.5m.
