CAMPAIGNERS believe alternative safety measures should have already been put in place along the notorious A491 so that last Tuesday's double tragedy could have been avoided.
What Price Lives? spokesman Tricia Brad-bury said highway bosses' plans to seal off the junctions along the A491 are unrealistic.
The group wants to see roundabouts or traffic lights put along the stretch.
Mrs Bradbury said: "The A491 is supposed to be a bypass. Sealing of the junctions would turn villages into rat-runs unable to cope with extra cars and would lead to more accidents.
"If proper traffic calming measures had been put in place this would not have happened.
Traffic lights
"The cost of the emergency services attending a road traffic accident in relation to the cost of traffic lights leads to the question what price lives?"
The group is being represented at the public inquiry on May 9 and 10.
