DETECTIVES investigating the death of a man whose body was discovered in the River Severn hope his trainers may help identify him.
The man has still not been named, a week after he was discovered floating in the river at Henwick.
His body could have been in the water for up to six months and police are urging anyone who recognises the distinctive trainers to contact them.
The man's body was discovered in the river at 1.45pm on Thursday, April 12, opposite Worcester Racecourse. A post mortem was carried out yesterday morning.
The man is described as white, aged between 20 and 40, 5ft 8in tall and of proportionate build.
He was wearing a light-coloured T-shirt with several buttons at the top - possibly a polo shirt - blue denim jeans which had the word trash embossed on the buttons, and black canvas Air Walk trainers, size eight, with prominent light grey soles.
He also had the tattoo Elle or a name ending in Elle on the top of his right arm, near his shoulder.
"It's possible the body may have been in the river for up to six months," said Det Insp Dave Bartlett. "We're keeping an open mind about the circumstances surrounding his death and would appeal to anyone who recognises his description, the tattoo or the trainers to contact us on 0105 723888."
An inquest will be opened at Stourbridge County Court on Monday, April 23.
