A HEAVY drinker who threw a glass in a pub injuring a customer has been put on probation for 18 months.

An argument blew up between 31-year-old Veronica Swift and Neil Shingler in the Queen's Head in High Street, Bromsgrove.

She picked up two glasses and tipped the contents over Mr Shingler who had drunk 13 pints of beer, said Brian Dean, prosecuting at Worcester Crown Court yesterday.

Then she threw the second glass, which caught him on the forehead.

Swift, of The Strand, Bromsgrove, admitted assault causing actual bodily harm.

Mr Dean said there were confused accounts of the violence on November 25 last year from an off-duty policeman and a barman.

But he said Swift and Mr Shingler, who were drinking partners, clearly had an argument. She told police he had been winding her up.

Defence counsel Samantha Powis said Swift was guilty of a reckless action. But she was now successfully battling a drink problem.

Judge Marten Coates accepted that Swift would voluntarily attend sessions at an alcohol advisory centre.
