THANK you very much indeed for publishing the picture of local brass musicians last week and reporting their success at the Worcester Competitive Arts Festival.
Unfortunately wires were crossed somewhere and I'm sure you will not mind me setting the record straight. The musicians pictured from Prince Henry's are all members of Perscoran Brass and it was Perscoran who won the three open brass classes with a soloist winning the open solo class, the trumpet quartet winning the open ensemble class and the band itself winning the open brass band class.
As well as 12 musicians from Prince Henry's High School the band consists of 11 members from Pershore High, three ex Pershore High pupils, three from St Augustine's in Redditch, one from Droitwich Spa High, one from St Egwin's Middle and one from St Barnabas Middle School. I think it is only fair to mention the contribution from these other schools as well. Perhaps it is also fair to point out that all these pupils are taught by teachers employed by the Worcestershire Instrumental Music Service. There is a fine and growing tradition of instrumental playing in the county due to the excellent co-operation between school music departments and visiting specialist teachers.
GORDON HARTLEY-BENNETT, Head of Brass Faculty, Worcestershire IMS Conductor, Perscoran Brass.
