KIDDERMINSTER Carnival celebrations have been given a boost with the award of a £2,475 National Lottery grant.

It is the second year running the annual event has been given lottery cash and the grant has been welcomed by organisers.

Carnival sponsorship officer Duncan Cashmore said: "We are very grateful to the lottery for this award. It will go a long way towards off-setting the costs of the event, ensuring we can give a sizeable donation to this year's charity, Wyre Forest Dial-A-Ride."

Since the current committee took over running the annual gala in 1992, £25,000 has been donated to local charities.

Mr Cashmore added: "With rising costs it is vital we continue to receive sponsorship and help in kind from local businesses."

The carnival will be held in Brinton Park on Saturday, June 16, and anyone wishing to book a stall can contact chairman Colin Hill on 01562 751634.

Charity, commercial and community organisations wanting to enter the parade either as a float or on foot can also contact Mr Hill.
