WEDNESDAY CLUB AGM: The chairman, Mrs Sarah Lancaster, reported that in addition to the apologies there were good and valid reasons why a significant number of colleagues were not present for the Mothers Union had arranged a surprise party for the imminent departure from Mickleton of Mrs Margaret Ingram who, for many years, had given valiant service to the local Brownies and Guides.
Reports by the club secretary, Mrs Jean Halama and treasurer Mrs Joan Chaloner, were very encouraging about this year's activities and optimistic about the club's future, nevertheless, new members would be most welcome.
The meeting was delighted to hear from the programme secretary Mrs Marie Phillipson, that bookings for talks and outings in the coming months were well in hand and went on to ask members for increased efforts to encourage friends and neighbours to join.
There was a modest turnover of club officers, the chairman whose first year had ended, the vice-chairman and one committee member. The floor endorsed the proposal that the new chairman should be Mrs Joan Chaloner and that her replacement as treasurer should be taken by Mr Neville Date.
Mr Harry Sutton has joined the committee and who offers a lot of technical expertise in the operation of the club's sound system. The remaining members of the committee were elected en bloc.
Presentations were made to Sarah Lancaster, Nancy Bowsted and Jean Ware in thanks for their efforts, through-out-the-year, on the committee.
