Evesham Golf Club
THE captain of Evesham Golf Club, Gary Bristow, had a wonderful start to his year leading the scratch team to victory in the County Winter Foursomes Matchplay KO competition.
Playing a strong Gay Hill side at Stourbridge, they won comfortably, two games to one. Gary partnered by Steve Woods, won on the 18th, Craig Moss/Warwick Holland won 6 and 5.
The A team also had a good start to the year. Playing at home against Lilleybrook they won the match 4-2.
The winning pairs were G Bristow/Warwick Holland, Lloyd Stephens/Nick Webb, Jamie Bailey/Tom Walker with Brian Cambell/Peter Lawrance and Martin Grove/Geoff Day halving their games.
Unfortunately the seniors had a poor start to their year losing at Ombersley 5 - 1 . The match was only played to the 13th hole due to torrential rain. They also lost at home to Wharton Park 3 - 2 . The captain Ray Smart, partnered by Derek Lambert and Ken Hardacre/Owen Gale, won their games with a half for Robin Flack/Geoff Roberts.
Due to the continual wet weather making the red course unplayable, the Roger Knight Trophy was played on the shorter blue course, the SS being 69. The winner was Nigel Payne 78-11-67 from the runner-up Peter Callaghan also 78-11-67, third was Craig Moss 69-1-68.
