DOZENS of Kidderminster music fans will take over one of the country's legendary venues when a town group plays there this month.

The Amateurs will be taking about 70 fans to Liverpool's famous Cavern Club, where The Beatles started their illustrious career.

But the four-piece indie group, formed seven months ago, will be whipping up an electric atmosphere in the small venue on April 27 with tunes of their own.

Vocalist Rob Ledger said: "We've got a coach going up - it should be a really good night.

"A lot of our fans have been to all our gigs in London but the Cavern is a bit more special and people will be bringing friends up."

The band emerged from the ashes of two Kidderminster bands, Blueliner and The Amateurs, and have so far come up with "15 or 20 songs" in a bid to woo record companies.

As well as the Liverpool date, The Amateurs will be playing at the Bull and Gate at Kentish Town in the capital on May 9.

In recent months they have become regulars at indie venues around Camden and Islington.

But Rob said: "After these two gigs we're going to take a bit of time to record new songs and produce our second CD."

Rob shares lead vocals with guitarist Matthew Colley, while bass player Andrew Fletcher and drummer Carl Ashton also help out with song-writing duties.

They are planning to premiere several new songs at the Cavern before committing them to CD.

Rob added the band was considering hiring a manager to boost their chances of securing a record deal.
