BUSINESSES leading the way in employing people with disabilities in Worcestershire and Herefordshire could be recognised for their work.

The Remploy Leading the Way Awards and Commendations recognise those employers who enable and encourage people with disabilities to realise their potential through work.

Previous winners have included Holden Hydroman of Bromyard, Herefordshire.

A panel of judges will assess employers by a number of criteria, including recruitment, training, access, practical support, career development and opportunities given to disabled people.

There will be eight regional winners and one national award winner, as well as commendations.

Paralympian Tanni Grey-Thompson will present the awards at the National Motorcycle Museum, Solihull, near Birmingham, on Wednesday, July 11.

"Winning a Leading the Way Award or Commendation enhances an employers profile and status," said Ray Fletcher, Remploy personnel director. "It improves the image of their organisation and demonstrates that they're meeting their legal and social responsibilities.

"Disabled people have the skills, enthusiasm and potential that no employer should miss."

An entry form for the competition is available by calling 0800 3282820. Closing date for entries is Thursday, May 31.
