A NATIONAL welfare disposal scheme set up to slaughter animals suffering because of movement restrictions has received 4,300 applications, involving 1.16 million animals.
A spokesman for the Intervention Board, said 260,000 animals had been slaughtered so far and the operation was being speeded up to deal with the backlog.
