A PITCH invasion by a bare-faced duo who chased footballers around the field went unreported - because women watching the match failed to notice the streakers.

Referee Kevin Harris said he did not log the incident after the female spectators at the match in Worcester said they had not spotted anything without their glasses on - and in any case had seen it all before.

Mr Harris quizzed the group of middle-aged onlookers to find out if they had been offended after the antics of the two men who staged their impromptu invasion in the raw.

"They replied that they hadn't, because they'd left their glasses behind, and so didn't see what had gone on," said the 47-year-old.

"If they had been upset I would've felt obliged to report the matter. But I told the ladies they hadn't really missed anything!"

Ten minutes were left on the clock when the two men sprinted towards the players wearing nothing but cheeky grins.

They danced a wild jig in the middle of the pitch at the city's Northwick Lodge and chased the teams around the ground.

The players - from The Oak Apple Inn at Worcester's Spetchley Road, and Pershore Manor Rovers - took to their heels.

But the mystery streakers disappeared into the shrubbery after causing five minutes of mayhem during the re-scheduled Sunday league fixture.

"It's the first time in 15 years of refereeing that I've had to deal with anything like this," said Mr Harris.

"I think they were in their mid-20s. Clearly they'd had a bit to drink."

Linda Young, wife of Rovers' manager Tony, was watching the game with her sister-in-law, Janet Merry, when the streakers broke loose.

The 51-year-old said: "We heard a thud and saw them drop out of some trees, but didn't pay much attention.

"The next thing we knew, they were running into the middle of the pitch, with their bits tucked away, so we couldn't see too much!

"The referee asked if we had been offended. But I wasn't wearing my glasses and we told him we'd seen it all before and better anyway!

"They were just being jolly. I think they'd had quite a bit to drink because it was perishing cold."

But the invasion proved a streak of good fortune for the players from The Oak Apple Inn who won the league clash 2-1 on Tuesday evening.
