TV antiques expert David Dickinson will be bringing his knowledge to Worcester's Huntingdon Hall next Saturday, April 28.

With shows such as The Antique Hunter, on Channel Five, and BBC's The Antiques Show, David is well established as the "real-life Lovejoy" as he's frequently dubbed.

But it all came about rather by accident: David was a hard-working dealer when he happened to bump into a TV producer at a party.

"It was a barbecue at my daughter's place a few years ago," he said, "and I got talking to this chap, who asked what I did. I said I was an antiques dealer and he said I looked rather like Lovejoy.

"We got together and that led to a programme in the BBC series Modern Times, which basically followed me around in my work as an antiques dealer."

David's TV career took off from there, and he recently branched out from antiques to appear on The Holiday Programme.

"That was great fun," he said. "It's not quite what people imagine: you're not lounging by the pool sipping martinis all day long, because you are having to get up at 7.30am to travel to some museum or beauty spot where you are filming.

"But I can't put my hand on my heart and say it was a chore, because I got to see all these marvellous places off the beaten track."

However, at Huntingdon Hall, it will be David's passion for antiques which will be the main topic of discussion, enlivened by his famously down-to-earth approach.

"What I want to get across is that there is no mystique about antiques. Anyone can learn about them, though it can't be done overnight. I'm able to share my 30 years of experience with the audience and perhaps allow them to learn from my mistakes."

David Dickinson will be at the Hall at 8pm. Tickets (£10 and £9) are available from the box office on 01905 611427.
