THE City Of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra performs three concerts in its home city this week.
On Sunday (April 22), there will be a family concert entitled Water World. All the music will have a water theme, and includes James Horner's Theme from Titanic, Elgar's Enigma Variation No.10, John Williams' Theme from Jaws, as well as audience participation pieces and singalongs. Tickets are £8 for adults of £4 for children.
Soprano Adrianne Pieczonka joins the CBSO for an Americana-themed concert on Wednesday (April 25) at Symphony Hall, Birmingham.
Robert Spano conducts an evening of works by Charles Ives, Samuel Barber and Anton Dvork. Barber's Knoxville: Summer of 1915 looks fondly back to poet James Agee's youth, while Ives' Variations on 'America' and Three Places in New England are an altogether more bracing recollection of the composer's childhood. Dvork's Symphony No.9 was his most popular work, and although written in America, also shows his homesickness for the landscapes of his native Bohemia. Tickets start at £6, and the concert starts at 7.30pm.
On Thursday April 26, the orchestra presents a Rush Hour Concert, starting at 6.15pm and lasting an hour. Ives' Variations on 'America' and Dvork's Symphony No.9 (From The New World) are intended to relax during the rush hour stress, and provide an "excuse for leaving the office at a sensible time and avoiding the rush hour chaos."
Tickets start at £5. All tickets are available from the box office on 0121 780 3333.
