IN attempting to characterise the relationship between the Liberal Democrats and Labour, Tory county councillor R A Bullock makes some elementary mistakes (You Say, April 14).
He seems to have forgotten that the Lib Dems and Labour are running a partnership administration at County Hall, a situation brought about by the fact that the 1997 local elections gave no one party overall control.
In these circumstances, it's only to be expected that Lib Dem and Labour county councillors will often vote together, either in support of their mutually-agreed programme, or in opposition to half-baked Tory proposals.
However, Coun Bullock's assertions that the Lib Dems "always" vote with Labour or that we are "one party" are totally unfounded.
The Liberal Democrats are an independent party with distinctive principles and policies, as the forthcoming local and national election campaigns will amply demonstrate.
